About Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing Centre
Hillbrow Health and Wellbeing Centre is a pioneering integrated health and well-being hub in Eastbourne, Sussex. Officially opened in August 2024, the centre occupies the former University of Brighton Eastbourne Sports Centre and is a unique collaboration between SDHC, a healthcare provider and Wave Active, an operator of local authority sports centre, to form a community wellness organisation. The centre is designed to deliver holistic, preventative, and rehabilitative care by combining NHS and private clinical services with physical activity, education, and community support. It is part of a broader movement to re-imagine primary care by embedding well-being into the heart of healthcare delivery.
Hillbrow serves a diverse and multi-generational population, including:
– Adults and older adults: Through services for chronic disease management, stroke and cancer rehabilitation, and dementia support.
– Children and young people: With tailored health and wellbeing programmes.
– People with physical disabilities or sensory impairments: Offering accessible facilities and inclusive programming.
– Individuals with mental health conditions: Providing integrated mental health support alongside physical wellbeing services.
– Patients with lifestyle-related conditions: Such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes, supported through preventative education and
activity-based interventions.
– The wider community: By promoting social prescribing, reducing isolation, and encouraging healthier lifestyles
