About The Black Cat Cafe
The Black Cat Cafe — A Rustic Haven Beside the Trailway
Tucked quietly just a minute’s walk from the North Dorset Trailway, The Black Cat Cafe occupies a lovingly restored barn at Gains Cross Farm, between Shillingstone and Blandford. It’s a warm, unassuming gem — a place built for pausing, reconnecting, and delighting in simple, well-made food. The Black Cat Cafe+2The Black Cat Cafe+2
Ambience & Setting
As you walk in, you’ll sense how thoughtfully the space has been crafted. Original beams and exposed stone walls meet reclaimed doors and teak accents, giving the interior a character that whispers of the building’s past. The Black Cat Cafe With seating for around 20 indoors and room for up to 60 outside on lawns, picnic tables and under umbrellas, the feeling is relaxed and honest. The Black Cat Cafe
Outside, rolling grass, woodland glimpses, and open sky frame your visit — a contrast to the bustle you left behind. The outdoors isn’t optional here; it’s part of the charm. The Black Cat Cafe
Hospitality & Philosophy
This cafe is the result of a long journey: founded by Sarah McCombe (of Black Cat Catering) in partnership with Alice Fox Pitt and the Rushmore Estate, the site was chosen and nurtured over four years. From the outset, the goal has been to feel personal, warm, and rooted in the locality.
They are committed to local sourcing and low-waste service: coffee is roasted in nearby Shaftesbury by a carbon‑neutral provider, and food is drawn from local producers wherever possible.
