About Queen Street Mill
Nestled in the rural village of Harle Syke, Queen Street Mill is the last surviving 19th Century steam powered weaving mill in the world. With original coal fired boilers, 1894 steam engine and 307 Lancashire Looms, Queen Street Mill is a nostalgic time capsule of the late Victorian age bringing the textile industry vividly to life. We have daily guided tours and a lovely cafe offering delicious coffee and tea, hot and cold food and tasty cakes!
In 1894, funds to build the mill were raised through the sale of 4000 shares with many of the shares being bought by weavers or local families. We understand that the history of the mill is woven into the history of our local communities and we are dedicated to providing safe, accessible spaces for everyone to enjoy, and provide opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills or just enjoy a heritage venue in peace!
