We visited the Costa Coffee at Oldham ICC today to take a photo for the Costa Community Instagram. It was fantastic to see their Chatter & Natter sign on the counter to generate interest from customers. They have had lots of customers asking what its all about and offering to sit at the table to chat to people.
The way we see it, sitting at a Chatter & Natter table is a bit like the leaflets you see in a doctors surgery; the first time you sit in the waiting room you look at the leaflets but don’t pick any up, the second and third times you visit, again, you see them, but don’t take any. On your fourth visit though you might just pick up a leaflet.
This is like a Chatter & Natter table; it may take someone four, five, ten or twenty times to go in a café with a Chatter & Natter table before they decide to sit at it.
The important thing is that the cafes keep up with the table so on that day, when someone who may be lonely decides to give it a go, they can sit at the Chatter & Natter table and hopefully strike up a conversation with a fellow customer.
