“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on…” (Oprah Winfrey)

Posted on 27 December 2018

I have chosen this quote because it feels like an apt way to think about the year. As we draw to the close of 2018 I am not thinking about making resolutions or giving myself a big list of things to try and achieve, instead I am going to simply keep going; keep racking my brain for things to write on social media, keep making up packs in my pyjamas, keep replying to emails and adding sites to the website and not really put any pressure on myself to do much more. I may try to use the stairs more at work but we’ll see how it goes.

Have I learnt anything this year? Yes, I have learnt there are a lot of lonely people out there from many different walks of life and that they are really nice people. No-body has been crying down the phone (although please note it is absolutely fine if you need to) but what I mean is that the majority of people I have met this year are interesting, chatty, funny, sparky individuals with a lot of optimism and enthusiasm for their fellow population. People actually do like people and that has resonated.

I am finishing the year feeling optimistic that there are lots of very nice people out there and I am starting to see that we are slowly (very slowly) but surely taking tiny steps towards each other.

That just leaves me to say thank you for your support; whether you are a cafĂ© that has joined the scheme, a person that has sat at a Chatter & Natter table or somebody who has got in touch over the year… you are all keeping this going, and for that I thank you.
